Interregional cooperation

Pskov Region borders on three foreign states, including members of the European Union. Interregional cooperation development is a priority goal of the Administration of Pskov Region, with an emphasis made on near-border business cooperation.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Pskov Region actively participates in the international projects as a regional coordinator or a project partner.

In 2008 the project “Internationalization of small and medium-size enterprises of Russia through the network of Chambers of Commerce and Industry” was launched, with Eurochambers being project’s main partner. The CCI of Pskov Region takes part in the second stage of the project.

Main objectives:

  • Study of the problems faced by small and medium-size enterprises, when trying to enter the European market
  • Assistance to Russian SMEs in their foreign trade activities at the European markets, which is rendered through the network of territorial CCIs and supported by Eurochambers’ experience and opportunities

Euroregions

Administration of Pskov Region, which is involved in active cooperation with the Baltic states, is currently developing a project for organization of Euroregions. The main objective of the project is restoration of traditional economic relations lost after the breakup of the USSR.

The main issue, which unites the border territories into a Euroregion, is the necessity to secure population’s employment and inhabitation of the territory. Over 100 enterprises based on Estonian capital and 165 enterprises based on Latvian capital have been registered in Pskov Region.

A Euroregion will be formed according to the Agreement between the parties for a period of 10–15 years. The main activities will be as follows:

  • encouragement of cooperation development, enhancement of mutual trade and investment
  • handling of shared environmental problems
  • professional training (primarily in traditional sectors of economy)
  • tourism development
  • logistics, transport complex development

By 2033 Pskov will become the capital of the Hanseatic league, with the international festival “Hanseatic days of the New Times” taking place in the region. A grand economic and cultural forum, which is to take place in Pskov in 2033, will be associated with the date when the town was first mentioned in the chronicles 1130 years ago.
